The 16th annual Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic in Wise, Virginia took in a record number of patients this month, assisting 1,600 on its first day. RAM delivers free medical care to people in rural areas across the country in the hopes of easing the worries of those who cannot afford health insurance. While Congress continues to argue over the Affordable Care Act, many nonprofits work to offer essential healthcare services, free of charge, to the Americans who need them most.
